Griffin Peebles

Griffin Peebles a podio in ELMS.

The European season finale delivers two championships decided in the same weekend. In Formula 3, Ugochukwu is world champion despite a difficult weekend for the Pro Racing drivers: Del Pino fourth in the Sprint Race, Gladysz caught up in a first-lap crash in Feature Race 1. At Hockenheim, Olivieri clinches the FREC title while Francot finishes 21st. At Silverstone, Peebles takes another podium and Ryba finishes fourth in the Michelin Le Mans Cup. Paatz faces a tough Brno round against an untouchable Weiss.

The Sprint Race opened the weekend with a positive note for Pro Racing. Bruno Del Pino secured fourth place at the conclusion of a race dominated by Théophile Nael (Campos), who claimed his third win of the season with a perfect launch from the start. Del Pino benefited from a team order that saw Alessandro Giusti cede the position, and held on to fourth until the chequered flag. Nothing spectacular, but solid points scored on a circuit nobody had ever raced on before.

Saturday evening turned into a nightmare for Pro Racing. Del Pino and his VAR teammate Enzo Deligny made contact at Turn 8, triggering a large pile-up that swept up Gladysz (into the rear of McLaughlin), Barrichello, Yamakoshi, Garfias and Shin. The red flag was shown before the opening lap was even complete. Slater, who had earlier made slight contact at Turn 1, spun out on his own on Lap 10 — his title hopes over. The winner was Pedro Clerot (Rodin), who led from front to back in an immaculate display after a stunning getaway from P2. Ugochukwu’s fourth place drew him level with Slater at the top of the standings.

Sunday morning began with Ugochukwu and Slater tied on points — but the American held the advantage on race wins. Taponen (MP Motorsport) led every lap from pole to take his maiden F3 win, while Ugochukwu managed second place calmly and clinched the 2026 Drivers’ title — becoming the first American champion in Formula 3 history. Slater, starting eighth, finished eighth: not enough to overturn the verdict. The Teams’ title went to Campos Racing for the second consecutive year.

Silverstone delivers Griffin Peebles a third LMP2 podium of the season with United Autosports, and with it a crucial batch of points heading into the Portimão finale. After fifth at Spa, the third place at the Home of British Motorsport keeps the LMP2 championship lead intact. Roda, Verschoor and Pin once again finish just outside the podium positions in LMP2 Pro/Am — fourth, in a result that reflects the story of their European campaign: always in the mix, never quite on the rostrum. Quintarelli retires in LMP3, ending his endurance season on a flat note.

A partial redemption for Matus Ryba in the Michelin Le Mans Cup at Silverstone: fourth place overall in LMP3 and the best lap of the session on lap 24 tells the story of a Brutal Fish Campos #19 that was quick and consistent throughout. ANS Motorsport (#9) wins overall ahead of R-ace GP (#85) and Team Virage (#70) in third — Ryba finishes just 18 seconds behind the podium. Once again quick, once again just short. Barashi retires after 39 laps. Donno brings the AF Corse Ferrari home 26th in the GT3 class, one lap adrift.

Hockenheim brings the curtain down on one of the most dramatic FREC seasons in recent years. Race 1 goes to Jan Przyrowski (RPM) in a chaotic encounter, with Olivieri managing second and keeping control of the situation. In the decisive Race 2, Wheldon (MP Motorsport) wins with authority but falls short in the title fight: Emanuele Olivieri finishes second and is crowned 2026 FREC champion with 218 points — only the second Italian to achieve the feat after Andrea Kimi Antonelli in 2023. The final standings read: Olivieri 218, Wheldon 209, Nakamura-Berta 201.

For Reno Francot, this is the most difficult end to a season that had promised so much. Outside the points in Race 1 and 21st in Race 2, the Hockenheimring weekend contrasts sharply with the back-to-back podiums at Imola just two weeks earlier. A season of extremes: the victory at the Red Bull Ring, the Zandvoort podium and the Imola double on the positive side — the Paul Ricard retirement and this Hockenheim finale on the other. He ends fifth in the final standings on 123 points.

Brno does not deliver the results Mathilda Paatz was hoping for. Elia Weiss dominates the weekend with three wins from four races (Race 1, Race 3 and Final Race) in a display of relentless pace, while Georgiy Zasov takes Race 2 for his maiden F4 CEZ victory. Paatz does not emerge in the leading positions across any of the four rounds — the circuit that crowned her Women’s Trophy champion twelve months ago does not give back the same rewards in 2026. With the season finale at the Red Bull Ring in October still to come, the Women’s Trophy target remains mathematically alive.
